Use about 1 pound of diatomaceous earth (DE) for every 10 square feet of filter area. For example, a 60-square-foot filter will need 6 pounds of DE. Measure the appropriate amount, mix it with water in a bucket to form a slurry, and pour it into the pool skimmer to feed it into the filter. It's recommended to clean DE filters at least once a year.
